Strange times
Posted in General on 09/18/2006 12:54 am by VictoriaI haven’t really felt like posting much recently and that’s because nothing particularly interesting has happened over the last couple of weeks.
In fact, several bad things have happened – firstly, my mobile phone stopped working last week. When I hold down the “on” switch, nothing happens. And when I try to plug it into the charger, nothing happens either. So that makes me wonder if the battery is completely dead and can no longer be re-charged. Or maybe dust/sand has got stuck underneath the keypad, meaning the buttons don’t work, but this doesn’t explain why the phone won’t re-charge at all. Anyway, I’ll be getting a new phone at Christmas, but until then I’m using my Mum’s phone – she hardly ever uses it, so she said I could have it. It’s a very basic phone though and even though I put my own sim card in it, I’ve lost virtually all the numbers in my directory. My Mum’s phone is a different brand, so I can only assume that the numbers are stored in a different format, which it can’t interpret.
Bad story number 2 – the re-structuring at work is still going on (yeah, it’s been going on for about 4 months now) and last week it was announced that there is going to be a lot of downsizing as well, in various other departments. I don’t think it’s very likely our team will be affected by the job-cuts, as we were already going through a re-structure of our own anyway. But you can never be 100% sure, so that’s why I’ve applied for another internal job as a precautionary measure – so if one goes, hopefully the other will still be available. And anyway, in our company there is a lot of help available for people who are made redundant – in many cases, the person can be re-deployed into another role. So I’m not too scared, yet!
Today I went for a walk along the river, even though it was a fairly dull day, it helped to take my mind off things. And next Sunday, we will probably go to the beach in Sheringham, before autumn really starts to set in and the weather gets too cold.
